We’ve been working on Ignition for the last month or so, and have made several changes. We also have developed a content strategy going forward, so let’s review!
The Free Tier Has Been Removed
The free tier of Ignition has been removed. The only tier is the paid tier. In that spirit, we’ve also cleaned out the free content. Every item on Ignition (except for oddball posts like this one) requires a member login to access.
If you had a free account previously, that has also been removed. We thought it best to keep the Ignition database as clean as possible.
The free content that was on Ignition can be found elsewhere now.
- If you’re looking for the Human Infrastructure Magazine or Link Propagation newsletters, we combined them into a weekly issue of HIM at the beginning of 2019. You can find HIM (including all back issues) here.
- If you’re looking for Virtual Design Clinic videos, you can find them at the Packet Pushers’ YouTube channel. Look for the playlists to help you locate specific presentations.
Upcoming Ignition Content
We are working on several content projects for Ignition. Here’s the summary of what’s in the hopper.
I am working on 3 courses, currently in their very early stages–one on TCP and variants, another on segment routing, and a third on advanced QoS.
We’ve got a whitepaper from Greg, “A View On How ML and AI Works With Networking” in the editing stages right now.
Russ White is working with us as an Ignition contributor, and he’s begun a video series on data center fabrics. We published the first video on that last week. There are at least 3 more coming as Russ’ schedule permits.
We’ve got four potential authors we’re working with on new projects. These not-yet-contracted topics we’re looking at include…
- Data center optics and cabling
- Presentation skills for engineers
- Ansible for network engineers
- Creating a self-service network infrastructure portal
These are tentative, as we’re waiting for final proposals to come in from authors before we give these projects the green light. We expect that some will happen and some not.

Update Your RSS Reader
We’ve consolidated all of Ignition into a single RSS feed, which works with readers such as Feedly. You can subscribe to the Ignition RSS feed whether you’re a member or not, although you won’t be able to read most of the content without logging in first.
The Ignition Framework
I’m honing an Ignition framework document that encompasses the entirety of what we’d like to see in the Ignition library over time. I’ll publish that framework doc when a version 1 is ready to go.
The framework document will prescribe the material we want to create, and offer a systematic way for members to consume it. We’ll keep tweaking that doc and prioritizing content projects as we get input from members on what they’d like to see next.
I’ve made a first draft of the framework doc, and need to revise it before publishing it on Ignition. We’ll let you know when that document exists so that you can offer feedback.
Not A Member?
You can join Ignition at any time for $99 a year. The price is low for now because the content library is in the early stages. You can browse the library titles via the Ignition index page to get a sense of what’s in there, and decide if it’s worthwhile to support our efforts.
We know that for many of you, Netflix is a more interesting way to spend your money. And for a few, $99 is too much for your budget. No problems here. We get it. We hope Ignition becomes more compelling to you over time, but for now, we want you to simply enjoy all the free content you have gotten and will continue to get from the Packet Pushers.
But for others of you, you’ll become members to support all the free stuff you’ve gotten from Packet Pushers over the years, and to grow your knowledge and expertise even more. We’re excited to be making things for you here at Ignition.
