Packet capture has been the definite tool for network visibility for many years, but it's time for evolution. Increasing use of encryption prevents payload visibility. Link speed increases in the LAN and WAN increases the amount of data to be collected, analyzed and stored.
Enter flow export, statistical analysis and machine learning. Data collection at scale using flow exports (sFlow/IPFIX) provides data that can be analyzed at scale. Events in the data are recognized and fingerprinted.
Patterns in encrypted flows combined with metadata such as domain name and IP address ranges are turned into actionable data.
