What The Heck Is Packet Pushers Ignition? Some FAQs

Ethan Banks April 11, 2018

Thanks for signing up to our new site, Packet Pushers Ignition. This is an idea that’s been percolating for several years among the Packet Pushers brain trust.

If you’re wondering exactly what it is you’ve signed up for, here are some answers to a few questions you might have.

What Is Packet Pushers Ignition?

Ignition is professional career development for network engineers and IT professionals featuring a growing library of courses, videos, white papers, articles and other content designed to help you advance your IT career.

How Is Ignition Different From PacketPushers.net?

All the podcasts and blogs on PacketPushers.net are free and open to everyone without any kind of subscription or membership wall. And it’s going to stay that way, with our regular mix of independent and sponsored podcasts, as well as community blogs and news coverage.

On Ignition, all the content is behind a paid subscriber wall. Ignition content is entirely independent of vendor sponsorship.

What Is The Point Of Ignition?

Ignition is a new type of business venture for us–one that doesn’t rely on sponsors. By bringing content directly to subscribers, we can create material that we think will be relevant and helpful to our audience without having to first find sponsors so that we can eat. At least, that’s the big idea. If no one subscribes, we’ll know how well this business idea is working. 😉

We also want to pay industry experts to develop content for subscribers. Paid memberships will defray those costs.

Is Ignition Certification Training?

No. While certifications are certainly one aspect of professional development, they aren’t the only one, and there are already many other places you can go to for certification training and coursework.

So…What’s In Here?

Ignition is focused not only on technology, but also on what that technology is good for. Business reasons for the technology to exist. Use cases.

In that context, you’ll find content focused less on nerd knobs and more on design principles. Sure, there will be how-to sorts of pieces, but we want you to understand the point of the technology as well. Context. It’s not enough to twist the nerd knob. You need to know when you should–or should not–twist the knob at all.

Because we always look toward the future of IT, we’ll continue to analyze emerging technologies, industry developments, and new ideas in networking and IT.

Are You Selling Or Sharing My Information?

No. We don’t sell or share your membership details with anyone outside of Packet Pushers except as necessary for processing credit card transactions. We don’t sell or rent your email or address to vendors or anyone else.

How Do I Get Started?

Go to your Dashboard or the Index page and dive in!

Can I Get Some Help With Ignition?

Yes. E-mail your member name and problem to operations@packetpushers.net. We’re a small team, but will do our best to help you sort it out as quickly as possible. If you are in the Packet Pushers audience Slack channel, you could try poking @ecbanks in the #ignition channel, too.
